PRESIDENT - GREG SMITH

Greg Smith graduated from the Drilling & Blasting and Heavy Equipment Technician programs at Fleming College in 1997. His career began with hands-on drilling experience in Botswana and Australia before returning to Canada to work as a technician. In 2000, Greg was inspired to start his own company, and in 2007, that vision became a reality when he recognized the demand for professionally managed drilling services.

OUR STORY

The name "Pontil" was inspired by the Australian drilling company where our founder, Greg Smith, once worked.  It was a company known for its dedicated team, love of challenges, and strong work ethic. Greg envisioned creating a company with the same spirit, one where people show up every day ready to give their best.

In 2007, Pontil Drilling began with just one rig and a passion for the industry. In 2012, the company expanded with the purchase of a second rig. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and establish ourselves as an industry leader.

Today, Pontil Drilling operates 15 CME rigs and 5 limited-access rigs. We've built strong relationships working alongside engineering firms, developers, municipalities, and homeowners. With offices located in Mount Albert and Hamilton, we're never far from where the work needs to be done.

What started as Greg’s desire to be his own boss and grow his career has evolved into a thriving company with over40 employees who share a passion for drilling and a commitment to excellence. Thanks to this shared dedication, Pontil Drilling has become a safe and empowering workplace providing high-quality service to our clients.

We are proud members of the National Drilling, and Ontario Groundwater, Associations and continue to support and advance the Canadian environmental and geotechnical industry.
