PRESIDENT - GREG SMITH
In 1997, Greg Smith graduated from the Drilling & Blasting and the Heavy Equipment Technician programs at Fleming College from there he dove into the industry drilling in Botswana and Australia before coming back to Canada and working as a technician. In 2000, he was inspired to open his own company and in 2007, Greg made his dream come true when he saw a need for professionally managed drilling services.
OUR STORY
Pontil’s name was inspired by the Australian drilling company Greg worked for- a company full of people who showed up, enjoyed challenges, and worked hard- and that’s what Greg wanted for his company.
Starting with one rig and navigating the industry with passion, a second rig was purchased and sent out to work in 2012.
Since 2012, Pontil Drilling has been able to dominate as an industry leader and increase the rig count to 15 CME rigs and 5 limited access rigs. Pontil Drilling has worked alongside engineering firms, developers, municipalities, and home owners, and with offices in Mount Albert and Hamilton, we’re never too far away from a job site.
What started out as a way to be his own boss and further his career has turned into a flourishing company, of approximately 40 people, who share a love and passion for drilling and who show up to give it their all. Because of this, Greg and Pontil have been able to provide a safe and reliable work place for its employees, an unmatched quality of service to our clients, and become members of the National Drilling Association to further push the Canadian environmental and geotechnical industry in the right direction.
